In the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 group stage match, Sri Lanka secured a dominant eight wicket victory over Australia at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy. After winning the toss and opting to bowl first, Sri Lanka controlled the game effectively and sealed qualification for the Super 8 stage with this crucial win.
Australia got off to a strong start through openers Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh, building a solid partnership. However, Sri Lanka’s spinners struck back in the middle overs, slowing the scoring rate and triggering a collapse that restricted Australia to a manageable total.
During the chase, Pathum Nissanka produced a sensational innings, scoring a brilliant century off just 50 balls the first hundred of the tournament and guiding Sri Lanka to victory with ease. Kusal Mendis supported him with a half century. The defeat has now left Australia’s chances of progressing to the Super 8 hanging in the balance.
