India's T20 World Cup-winning captain Suryakumar Yadav is reportedly facing a major setback, with the BCCI considering removing him from the captaincy ahead of the upcoming tours of Ireland and England. Despite leading India to the T20 World Cup title, Suryakumar's prolonged dip in form has become a growing concern for the team management and selectors. Once regarded as the world's No.1 T20 batter, the Mumbai star has struggled to produce consistent performances in recent months.
His disappointing IPL 2026 campaign has further intensified discussions within the BCCI. Representing Mumbai Indians, Suryakumar managed only 270 runs in 13 innings, marking his poorest IPL season since 2017. Reports suggest that the board has held discussions with head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar regarding leadership changes. While no official announcement has been made, names such as Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan, and Hyderabad's Tilak Varma are reportedly being considered for the captaincy role.
