South Africa tightened their grip on the second Test against Australia and moved closer to victory in the rain-affected contest. Resuming their first innings on 3/1 on Day 4, Australia were bowled out for just 99 in 42.3 overs as Marco Jansen produced a brilliant spell of 5/33. South Africa secured a commanding 326-run first-innings lead and enforced the follow-on. Australia reached 156/4 by stumps in their second innings, with Travis Head unbeaten on 86. They remained 170 runs behind with six wickets in hand.
Earlier, captain Temba Bavuma played a magnificent knock of 179 to lead South Africa to 425/9 declared in their first innings. After his side slipped to 40/4, Bavuma produced a crucial captain’s innings and rebuilt the innings with valuable support from Marco Jansen (85) and Simon Harmer (82). Their contributions put South Africa in a dominant position and left Australia facing a difficult task to save the Test.
