South Africa created history in the FIFA World Cup by entering the knockout stage for the first time. They defeated Korea 1-0 in a Group A match on Thursday, with Thapelo Maseko scoring the only goal in the 63rd minute.
After losing to Mexico in the opener and drawing against Czech Republic, South Africa secured a crucial win in the final group match to finish second and qualify for the Round of 32. Korea, despite 80% possession, failed to score and finished third. Mexico topped the group with a 3-0 win over Czech Republic.
