Team India star batter and Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill is preparing to enter the local T20 circuit in Punjab. He is set to represent Fazilka Falcons in the Sher-e-Punjab T20 League and could feature against Bathinda Royals on September 5. Gill has already started training ahead of his return. He missed the first three matches of the tournament due to the Sri Lanka Test series. In his absence, Sanveer Singh led Fazilka Falcons, who have won one of their three matches and are currently fifth in the six-team points table.
The tournament also features several other prominent Indian players, including opener Abhishek Sharma, pacer Arshdeep Singh, Punjab Kings opener Prabhsimran Singh and Mumbai Indians player Naman Dhir. Gill is reportedly keen to use the league as an opportunity to strengthen his case for a return to India’s T20 squad. After being dropped following a period of inconsistent performances in T20 internationals, he has not played for India in the format since December 2025. A strong showing in the Sher-e-Punjab League could help him push for a comeback.
