The five-match T20 series between India and the West Indies ended in a 2-2 draw after the decisive fifth match, scheduled to be played in Bengaluru on Saturday, was abandoned due to rain. With neither side able to secure a series victory, the teams shared the trophy. Following the series, Indian captain Shreyas Iyer spoke about young batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi and the possibility of his inclusion in the playing XI for the upcoming T20 series against New Zealand.
Iyer praised Suryavanshi’s talent but stressed that he would need to remain patient before getting his opportunity. He explained that openers Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson have been performing consistently and played important roles in India’s T20 World Cup triumph, making it difficult to leave either of them out. Suryavanshi remained on the bench throughout the West Indies series and had also missed out on playing opportunities in the earlier Afghanistan series. India’s five-match T20 series against New Zealand is scheduled to begin on October 22 in Christchurch. The BCCI has already announced the squad, with experienced fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar included in the team.
