Shreyas Iyer Celebrates Maiden T20I Captaincy Win as India Defeat Zimbabwe

India registered a convincing seven-wicket victory over Zimbabwe in the first T20I on Thursday, handing captain Shreyas Iyer his maiden win as India's T20I skipper. After suffering whitewash defeats against Ireland and England, the young Indian side made a strong start to the Zimbabwe tour. Teenage sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi stole the spotlight with a blistering 50 off just 19 balls, smashing four boundaries and four sixes to guide India to an easy chase.

Speaking after the match, an elated Shreyas Iyer praised his teammates for executing their plans brilliantly. He lauded Vaibhav's fearless batting and highlighted his familiarity with Zimbabwean conditions, recalling his 175-run knock in the Under-19 final. Iyer also appreciated the impressive comeback of pacer Mayank Yadav, who maintained excellent line and length throughout his spell. The match also saw Iyer achieve a unique milestone, becoming the first captain in T20I history to win the toss in each of his first eight matches, surpassing the previous record jointly held by MS Dhoni and Gregory Taylor.
