Bangladesh may have suffered a heavy defeat against Australia in the second Test at Mackay, but left-arm pacer Shoriful Islam produced a memorable individual performance. He claimed a career-best 7/48 in Australia’s second innings, becoming the first visiting bowler since West Indies great Curtly Ambrose in 1993 to take seven wickets in a Test innings on Australian soil. Shoriful’s spell was one of the few bright spots for Bangladesh in a match that Australia won by an innings and 51 runs.

The defeat levelled the two-match series at 1-1, but Bangladesh still achieved a major milestone in the latest ICC Test rankings. The Tigers climbed three places to sixth, their highest-ever position in Test cricket, with a rating of 78. Their rise followed their historic nine-wicket victory over Australia in the first Test in Darwin.
