Senior Indian fast bowlers Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami have faced similar situations in recent years, remaining out of the national team despite consistent performances in domestic cricket. However, the announcement of India’s T20 squad for the upcoming New Zealand tour changed their circumstances differently. Bhuvneshwar earned a recall after nearly four years, while Shami was left out. Speaking to the media ahead of the 2026–27 Ranji Trophy season, Shami said he would continue to give his best wherever he gets an opportunity to play.
“Bhuvneshwar Kumar has got the opportunity to play for India, and that is a good thing for him. As far as I am concerned, I will give my best wherever I get the chance. Right now, my entire focus is on this Ranji match. The same thing has been happening with me for the past two or three years. I have performed well and proved my fitness for Bengal. Even if I do not get another opportunity to play for India, it will not be a loss for me,” Shami said. Former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer has also expressed surprise over the lack of opportunities for Shami and Mohammed Siraj.
