Shafali Verma has been officially named as the replacement for injured all-rounder Pratika Rawal in India’s World Cup squad, the ICC confirmed on Monday (October 27).
Rawal suffered a serious injury while fielding during the rain-hit clash against Bangladesh in Navi Mumbai, ruling her out for the remainder of the tournament. Her absence comes as a big setback for India ahead of their crucial semifinal against Australia.
Verma, currently the leading run-scorer in the ongoing Senior Women’s T20 League, earned a well-deserved call-up after a stunning domestic season. The Haryana skipper has scored 341 runs in seven innings, including a century and two half-centuries, at a strike rate of 182.35.
She will join the national camp in Navi Mumbai on Tuesday as India prepares for their high-stakes semifinal clash, hoping her explosive batting will boost the team’s momentum.
