Senegal scripted history with a stunning 5-0 victory over Iraq in the FIFA World Cup Group I clash, becoming the first African team to score five goals in a single World Cup match. Needing a win to stay alive in the tournament, Senegal delivered a dominant performance and secured a place in the knockout stage with an emphatic victory.
Habib Diarra opened the scoring in the fourth minute before Ismaila Sarr doubled the lead in the 56th minute. Pape Gueye struck twice in the 59th and 71st minutes, while Iliman Ndiaye completed the scoring in the 82nd minute. Senegal finished third in Group I to qualify for the knockout stage, while France and Norway advanced as the top two teams. Iraq was eliminated from the tournament.
