Indian discus thrower and Asian Games medalist Seema Punia has been handed a 16-month suspension after failing a dope test. The National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) confirmed that the ban has been in effect since November 10. However, NADA did not disclose the specific banned substance detected in her sample.
This is the second doping-related suspension of her career, as she had faced a ban earlier during her junior days. Seema last competed at the 2023 Asian Games, winning a silver medal. With four Commonwealth Games medals to her name, she has been one of India’s most successful discus throwers.
Sports analysts believe this suspension could virtually mark the end of her long athletic career
