

Indian women’s hockey goalkeeper Savita Punia is confident that the team can make a strong impact at the 2026 FIH Women’s Hockey World Cup. Coming off a Nations Cup triumph, Savita said the victory has given the players a major confidence boost. She believes India now has the skill, fitness and mentality required to challenge the best teams in the world.
For Savita, the tournament will mark her third World Cup appearance, an achievement she considers a matter of pride. She said her experience will help her guide the team when required and remain calm under pressure. Praising captain Salima Tete, Savita described her as an excellent leader and player whose aggressive approach adds strength to the side. The 2026 Women’s Hockey World Cup is being co-hosted by Belgium and the Netherlands, with the tournament scheduled from August 14 to 30.
