The Indian selectors have rested Sanju Samson from the Zimbabwe T20I series, keeping the upcoming Asian Games in mind. Since the Zimbabwe tour is short and Samson was unlikely to feature in every match, the selection committee preferred to preserve him for the Asian Games while providing opportunities to emerging players instead of keeping an experienced cricketer on the bench.
One of the biggest beneficiaries of this decision is wicketkeeper-batter Prabhsimran Singh, who impressed with 510 runs at a strike rate of 168.87 for Punjab Kings in IPL 2026. The selectors also wanted a reliable right-handed batter in a top order dominated by left-handers. Although the BCCI maintains that Samson's exclusion was not based primarily on form, his recent low scores in international cricket and inconsistent performances contributed to the decision.
