India’s veteran cricketers Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have already stepped away from the T20 and Test formats and are currently continuing only in One Day Internationals. The recently concluded three-match ODI series against New Zealand ended in a 2–1 defeat for India. While Rohit Sharma failed to make a significant impact across the three matches, Virat Kohli stood out with two magnificent centuries.
Despite the disappointment of the series loss, fans are more concerned about when the iconic “Ro-Ko” duo will return to international action. With the New Zealand series now over and no immediate ODI assignments scheduled, both Rohit and Kohli are expected to get an extended break of nearly six months. As preparations intensify for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, the Indian team’s focus will shift largely to the shortest format. India is set to play a five-match T20I series against New Zealand ahead of the World Cup, followed by the IPL after the tournament. As a result, fans are likely to see Rohit and Kohli next in the IPL rather than in international cricket.
In terms of international fixtures, Rohit and Kohli are expected to return to action around June or July, when Afghanistan is scheduled to tour India. There is a possibility that the duo could feature in that series, although selectors may opt to give younger players an opportunity in the ODI format. Following that, India’s tour of England is on the calendar, where the chances of Rohit and Kohli making a comeback in the blue jersey are considerably higher. Until then, fans may have to wait a few more months to see the legendary pair back on the international stage.
