An unexpected development has taken place in the Lucknow Super Giants camp, as captain Rishabh Pant has stepped down from his leadership role. Pant officially requested the franchise to relieve him of his captaincy duties, and the management accepted his request with immediate effect. The development was confirmed through an official statement released by the franchise.
Lucknow’s Cricket Director Tom Moody stated that Pant personally approached the franchise with this request. Respecting his decision, the management approved it promptly. Moody acknowledged that such decisions are never easy and appreciated Pant’s contributions as captain, including his leadership in the dressing room. He added that the team will now focus on rebuilding and restructuring to achieve the highest standards.
The ongoing Indian Premier League 2026 season has already witnessed major leadership changes. Earlier, Hardik Pandya made headlines with a similar decision during the tournament. With Pant also stepping down, two captains have now relinquished their roles this season, making IPL 2026 one of the most eventful editions in recent times.
Following Pant’s resignation, attention has now shifted to who will take over as the next captain of Lucknow Super Giants. Reports suggest that the franchise may soon announce a new leader as part of its restructuring plans, adding further intrigue to the season.
