Kolkata Knight Riders are reportedly discussing options for a new captain following Ajinkya Rahane’s retirement from cricket. Among the names being considered is India batter Rinku Singh, who is already an established member of the KKR squad. Rinku recently demonstrated his leadership credentials by guiding Meerut Mavericks to the UP T20 League title. He took charge of the side after being left out of India’s T20I squad for the series against Afghanistan.
Meerut Mavericks defeated Lucknow Falcons by 94 runs in Sunday’s final, with veteran India pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar leading the opposition. Although Rinku did not make a significant contribution with the bat in the final, he successfully led his team to the title. Mavericks won nine of their 10 matches in the tournament. Rinku also served as KKR’s vice-captain in the latest IPL season and has played 73 IPL matches since making his debut in 2018. His leadership experience and performances have now sparked discussions about handing him the KKR captaincy in the upcoming season.
