Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has made headlines ahead of IPL 2026 after being sold for a massive ₹16,500 crore. Reacting to this, former owner Vijay Mallya recalled that he had purchased the franchise in 2008 for ₹450 crore. He noted that many people had mocked his decision at the time, calling it an extravagant investment. However, the franchise’s valuation has now grown nearly 37 times, which he said gives him immense satisfaction.
Mallya congratulated the new owners and wished them success with one of the most valuable IPL franchises. He added that RCB will always remain a part of his DNA, highlighting his role in building the brand and selecting star player Virat Kohli. Meanwhile, concerns about a possible name change were addressed by Ananya Birla, who confirmed that the franchise will continue as Royal Challengers Bengaluru, bringing relief and joy to fans.
