India posted 189/7 in 20 overs after winning the toss and electing to bat in the opening T20I against England. Abhishek Sharma led the charge with a blistering 59 off 24 balls, while captain Shreyas Iyer anchored the innings with 68 from 47 deliveries. Shivam Dube provided a late flourish with an unbeaten 42 off 21 balls. For England, Saqib Mahmood claimed three wickets, while Adil Rashid and Sam Curran picked up one wicket each.

Rain arrived immediately after India's innings, forcing the ground staff to cover the pitch. Although officials waited until the 1:30 AM cut-off time in the hope of staging a five-over chase, persistent rain forced the umpires to abandon the match. Under the DLS method, England would have needed 64 runs in five overs. Shreyas Iyer also created history by becoming the first Indian captain to score a T20I half-century in England.
