Rain has emerged as a major factor in the men’s cricket competition at the 2026 Asian Games. India advanced to the semi-finals after its quarter-final against Afghanistan was abandoned due to persistent rain, with the higher-seeded team progressing under the tournament rules. If India’s semi-final is also completely washed out, the seeding rule could again determine the finalist. The semi-finals are scheduled for October 1, followed by the final on October 3.
The weather could also play a decisive role in the gold-medal match. Under the reported tournament regulations, if a knockout match cannot reach the required playing threshold and is declared a no-result, the higher-seeded team can advance or claim the gold based on its pre-tournament ICC T20I ranking. A similar situation occurred at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games, when the men’s final was washed out and India were awarded gold as the higher-seeded team.
