Former India head coach Rahul Dravid has reportedly emerged as one of the leading candidates for the England Test team's head coach position. The development comes after Brendon McCullum decided to step down as the Test coach following England's recent series defeat to New Zealand. However, McCullum will continue to oversee England's white-ball teams.
According to media reports, Dravid's name features alongside former England coach Andy Flower, ex-England spinner Richard Dawson, Kumar Sangakkara, Andrew Flintoff, Mike Hesson and Justin Langer. Dravid's successful coaching stint with India, which included the 2024 T20 World Cup triumph and a runners-up finish in the 2023 ICC World Test Championship, has strengthened his credentials. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is expected to appoint a new Test coach before next year's Ashes series.
