PV Sindhu Knocked Out of Asian Games After Quarterfinal Loss

India’s badminton campaign at the 2026 Asian Games has come to an end. PV Sindhu and Unnati Hooda were eliminated in the women’s singles quarter-finals, leaving India without a medal in the individual events. Two-time Olympic medallist Sindhu lost 21-11, 18-21, 10-21 to China’s Chen Yufei, while Unnati went down 16-21, 21-14, 17-21 to Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi after a hard-fought contest. In doubles, Treesa Jolly–Gayatri Gopichand and Dhruv Kapila–Tanisha Crasto also suffered quarter-final defeats.

India, which won three badminton medals at the previous Asian Games, finished the 2026 campaign with a bronze in the men’s team event. The country failed to secure a medal in any individual badminton event this time. India also suffered two defeats in women’s sepaktakraw doubles. In weightlifting, Harjinder Kaur finished ninth in the women’s 69kg category, while the Indian fencing contingent ended its campaign without a medal.
