Indian badminton star PV Sindhu bowed out of the Malaysia Open World Tour Super 1000 tournament following a semifinal loss on Saturday. Sindhu was defeated by China’s second seed Wang Zhiyi in straight games, 16–21, 15–21. Earlier in the tournament, India’s men’s doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty had also exited in the quarterfinals.
Returning to competitive action after a long injury layoff, Sindhu impressed with an unbeaten run until the semifinals. She had produced a strong performance in the quarterfinals by defeating Japan’s formidable Akane Yamaguchi to enter the last four. Despite a spirited campaign, Sindhu fell short in the semifinals, ending her run at the prestigious tournament.
