Former India cricketer Parthiv Patel was widely expected to apply for the West Zone selector's position following Ajit Agarkar's exit. However, Patel did not submit an application for the post, potentially clearing the way for Pragyan Ojha to continue as the full-time chairman of the selection committee. Ojha has been temporarily leading the committee since Agarkar's departure. Among the current selectors, Ojha has played the highest number of Test matches, giving him considerable experience in international cricket.
The deadline for submitting applications for the West Zone selector's position ended on Wednesday. Former India cricketers Ramesh Powar and Sameer Dighe are among those who have applied for the role. With Patel staying out of the selection process, the focus has shifted to the remaining applicants and the possibility of Ojha continuing in a permanent leadership role. However, the final appointment will depend on the selection process and the official decision of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
