Former West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard broke Chris Gayle’s long-standing T20 run record and became the highest run-scorer in T20 cricket. The record had remained with Gayle for 12 years. After achieving the milestone, Pollard jokingly apologized to the “Universe Boss” for surpassing his record.
During the Major League Cricket 2026 match between MI New York and Washington Freedom, Pollard played a sensational innings, scoring a century off 56 balls. He crossed Gayle’s tally when he reached 81 runs in the match. Pollard has now scored 14,582 runs in 736 T20 matches, while Gayle remains second with 14,562 runs.
After the match, Pollard said it was special to break the record of his idol Chris Gayle. He added that batting in the lower middle order is a difficult task and someone has to finish games. Pollard also said modern cricket has evolved and has become both a sport and a business.
