Former India wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel has reportedly stayed away from applying for the West Zone selector’s position, despite the possibility of moving into a key role in Indian cricket’s selection setup. Reports suggest that the chief selector’s remuneration could reach around ₹3 crore. Patel currently works as a commentator and serves as a coach with Gujarat Titans. Taking up a selector’s role could require him to give up these professional commitments and affect his existing engagements. Cricket observers believe his current career commitments and potential earnings may have influenced his decision. However, no official confirmation of Patel’s reasons has been reported.
Former India cricketers Wasim Jaffer and Ramesh Powar are reportedly among the applicants for the West Zone selector’s position, with reports suggesting Powar could be in contention for the role. Jaffer’s Test experience has also made him a prominent name in discussions surrounding the appointment. If Powar is selected, Pragyan Ojha, who is currently serving as interim chief selector, could be considered for the chief selector’s role. The final appointments, however, remain subject to an official announcement from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
