Former Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar has reacted to Pakistan’s decision to boycott the match against India in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. Gavaskar said Pakistan could reverse its stand, similar to how Pakistani cricketers in the past have withdrawn retirement announcements. He noted that Pakistan has often changed its position when faced with criticism from former players and the global cricket community.
Gavaskar also warned that Pakistan could face strict action from the ICC if it fails to provide valid reasons for skipping the high-profile match against India in the mega tournament. Meanwhile, India is expected to travel to Sri Lanka as per schedule for the February 15 fixture. If Pakistan does not take the field, the Indian team will wait for the match referee’s decision. The BCCI has not issued any official statement so far, and clarity is still awaited on a possible India-Pakistan clash in the knockout stages.
