England captain Harry Brook has created history in One-Day International cricket by smashing the fastest double century in the format. During the match against Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi, Brook reached the 200-run mark in just 114 balls, breaking the previous record held by India’s Shubman Gill, who achieved the feat in 117 deliveries. Brook finished with an outstanding 202 off 116 balls, including 21 fours and 10 sixes. He also became the first English batter to score a double century in ODI cricket, surpassing Ben Stokes’ previous national record of 182 runs.
Brook achieved another rare milestone by becoming the second cricketer, after West Indies legend Chris Gayle, to register a triple century in Tests, a double century in ODIs and a century in T20 internationals. Batting at No. 4, he also became the first player to score an ODI double century from that position. His 202-run knock surpassed Glenn Maxwell’s previous highest ODI score by a non-opener, 201 not out, against Afghanistan in the 2023 World Cup. Brook’s remarkable innings has placed him among the most notable record-breakers in ODI history.
