Mumbai Indians Captaincy Set for a Change

Mumbai Indians are reportedly preparing for a change in captaincy ahead of the next IPL season, with former skipper Rohit Sharma expected to play an important role in choosing his successor. Rohit has reportedly declined the franchise’s request to take back the captaincy and has instead been included in the strategic group involved in the decision. The franchise’s decision to replace Rohit with Hardik Pandya three seasons ago had triggered significant criticism. However, Rohit stayed with Mumbai and has continued to contribute as a player. Hardik, meanwhile, has faced criticism over the team’s performances during his captaincy, with reports suggesting that Mumbai could consider moving on from him.

Hardik has been linked with a possible move to other franchises, with Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings among the teams reportedly interested in him. However, a trade may not materialise due to difficulties over valuation and the availability of a suitable replacement. In that scenario, Hardik could remain with Mumbai as a player for another season. For the captaincy, Mumbai are reportedly considering middle-order batter Tilak Varma and fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah. Suryakumar Yadav is unlikely to be considered for the leadership role due to his age and recent form, although Mumbai are expected to retain him for the upcoming season.
