France's dream of lifting the FIFA World Cup came to an end after suffering a 2-0 defeat to Spain in the semi-finals. Following the loss, star forward Kylian Mbappé admitted that tactical failures and a lack of coordination within the team played a major role in their elimination. He said France failed to execute its game plan, could not maintain pressure on the opposition, and struggled to control the midfield, making victory impossible.
Despite the disappointing exit, Mbappé remains a strong contender in the Golden Boot race with eight goals and three assists. Lionel Messi, who has eight goals and two assists, remains in contention with a semi-final yet to play, while Erling Haaland, with seven goals, is no longer in the tournament. France will now shift its focus to the third-place playoff, giving Mbappé another opportunity to strengthen his Golden Boot challenge.
