India’s path to the semi-finals has become dependent on Net Run Rate permutations following the Super 8 scenarios. In the first situation, if West Indies score 200 and South Africa chase the target within 18 overs, West Indies’ NRR would be +2.22 while South Africa’s would rise to +2.40. To stay ahead without relying on other teams, India must post a massive total of around 250 and defeat Zimbabwe by at least 150 runs to surpass both teams’ NRR.
In the second scenario, if South Africa score 200 and West Indies chase it within 18 overs, West Indies’ NRR would jump to +3.28 and South Africa’s to +1.50. Even in this case, India would need a commanding 150-run victory over Zimbabwe after scoring big. Following that, India must defeat West Indies in the final Super 8 match in Kolkata to keep their semi-final hopes firmly in their own hands.
