

Norwegian Grandmaster Magnus Carlsen clinched the FIDE World Rapid Championship title after an impressive performance across 13 rounds, finishing with 10.5 points. This victory marks Carlsen’s sixth World Rapid Championship crown.
Despite suffering a setback in the seventh round against Russia’s Vladislav Artemiev, Carlsen regrouped quickly and displayed exceptional focus in the later rounds to secure the top position. Artemiev finished second with 9.5 points, while India’s Arjun Erigaisi claimed third place with the same score.
Among other Indian players, V.R. Chithambaram Aravind, Nihal Sarin, and D. Gukesh ended the tournament with 8.5 points each, finishing 16th, 19th, and 20th respectively.
In the women’s section, Russia’s Alexandra Goryachkina won her maiden World Rapid Championship title by defeating Zhu Jiner in the final round. Zhu finished second, while India’s Koneru Humpy secured third place. All three players scored 8.5 points, with the title decided on tie-break rules.
The Blitz Championship, part of the same event, is scheduled to begin on Monday.
