Lalit Modi Gets Big Relief in FEMA Case

Lalit Modi and the BCCI have received major relief after the SAFEMA Appellate Tribunal dismissed the Enforcement Directorate's allegations of violating foreign exchange regulations during the relocation of the 2009 IPL to South Africa. The tournament was shifted due to security concerns during the general elections. The Tribunal ruled that there was insufficient evidence to hold Lalit Modi personally responsible for any FEMA violations.

Reacting to the verdict, Lalit Modi said that the truth had finally prevailed after a 16 year legal battle. He stated that his only intention had always been the success of the IPL and that he now wished to move on with his life. Modi also revealed that he is expecting a grandchild in October and expressed hope of returning to India later this year or early next year. Lalit Modi played a key role in creating the IPL but was banned for life by the BCCI in 2013 over alleged financial irregularities.
