Kashmir-based cricketer Jehangir Lone has come under criticism after a video allegedly showing him assaulting a spectator following a local cricket match went viral on social media. The incident reportedly occurred after a Red Premier League (RPL) match between Athwas India XI and Royal Goodwill CC last Sunday. Athwas India XI won the match by three wickets, after which some of its supporters reportedly entered the field. During the commotion, Jehangir, who plays for Royal Goodwill CC, was seen repeatedly hitting a man and continuing the assault despite attempts by teammates and other spectators to intervene. The video sparked widespread criticism online, with many questioning the player's conduct.
Responding to the controversy, Jehangir Lone reportedly said that he reacted because the man had allegedly made insulting remarks about his family. “I cannot tolerate anyone abusing my family. My family is my honour, and he insulted them. That is why I reacted that way,” he explained. While the cricketer has offered his version of events, the circumstances surrounding the confrontation and the allegations made by both sides have not been independently established. The incident has renewed discussion about maintaining discipline and sportsmanship on and off the cricket field.
