Indian shuttler Jagshar Singh delivered an impressive performance at the World Junior Badminton Championships, securing a place in the boys’ singles semifinals and guaranteeing India a medal. In a thrilling quarterfinal on Thursday, Jagshar defeated Yuan Xu Zhuang of Chinese Taipei 6-15, 17-15, 15-12. After losing the opening game, the Indian recovered brilliantly, winning the next two games to seal the match. Earlier, he had defeated Malaysia’s Lee Qian Chang 15-8, 15-8 in the pre-quarterfinals. Jagshar will face Indonesia’s Bауu Wardana on Friday in the semifinal, with a place in the final at stake.
Meanwhile, India’s Shaina Manimuttu missed out on a medal opportunity in the girls’ singles event. She lost her quarterfinal match against Yi Qing Yin of China in straight games, 5-15, 8-15, and was eliminated from the tournament. While Jagshar’s victory has assured India a place on the medal podium, Shaina’s campaign ended in the last eight. All eyes will now be on Jagshar as he looks to advance to the final and improve India’s medal prospects at the prestigious junior tournament.
