

East Zone made a strong statement on the opening day of the Duleep Trophy final, finishing Sunday’s play at 385/4 after opting to bat first. Captain Ishan Kishan led the charge with an unbeaten 111 off 135 deliveries, hitting 14 fours and a six. Openers Abhimanyu Easwaran and Vaibhav Suryavanshi gave East Zone a solid start by adding 100 runs for the first wicket. Easwaran went on to score 72, while Suryavanshi contributed a brisk 44. Shikhar Mohan also impressed with an 85-run knock before his dismissal.
East Zone briefly slipped to 147/3 after the dismissals of Easwaran, Suryavanshi and Sudeep Kumar, who scored six. Ishan Kishan then produced a captain’s innings, taking the attack to the South Zone bowlers. He reached his half-century in 71 balls before completing his century in just another 51 deliveries. Ishan shared a 94-run partnership with Shikhar Mohan for the fourth wicket and an unbeaten 144-run stand with Kumar Kushagra, who finished the day on 63. For South Zone, Chama Milind was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 2/56.
