Former cricketer Kris Srikkanth has strongly criticized Team India’s young all-rounder Nitish Reddy, expressing doubts over his readiness for international cricket. According to Srikkanth, Nitish still needs significant improvement to justify his place in the team.
He questioned the selectors for picking Nitish over Axar Patel, especially when Nitish’s record in home conditions has been far from impressive. Srikkanth stated that selecting him even for the ODI squad made little sense.
“Is Nitish Reddy really an all-rounder? Does he have swing? Does he have pace? Has he shown dominant batting? One century at the MCG doesn’t make anyone an all-rounder,” he remarked. Taking a dig, he added, “If Nitish is an all-rounder, then I must be a great all-rounder myself!”
Srikkanth also questioned how Nitish could take the place of someone like Hardik Pandya and demanded clarity on why Axar Patel was ignored.
He didn’t spare Gautam Gambhir either. With India on the brink of defeat in the Guwahati Test, Srikkanth pulled up Gambhir too. “Debuting a new player every second match can’t be justified as trial and error. Gambhir may say whatever he wants, but as a former captain and chief selector, I feel the team needs consistency,” he said.
