The BCCI has invited applications for a vacant position on the men’s selection committee following the end of Ajit Agarkar’s tenure as chief selector. Amid the search for his successor, India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja made a light-hearted comment on the board’s official X post. “What’s the procedure?” Jadeja wrote while responding to the vacancy announcement. Although clearly made in jest, the comment quickly caught the attention of cricket fans.
Jadeja, however, is not currently eligible for the position under the BCCI’s stated criteria. Candidates must have retired from cricket at least five years earlier, while Jadeja retired only from T20 internationals in 2024 and continues to play Test and ODI cricket. Meanwhile, Agarkar’s tenure, which began in July 2023, ended on October 4. During his tenure, India won the 2024 and 2026 T20 World Cups and the 2025 Champions Trophy, besides reaching the 2023 ODI World Cup final. The BCCI praised his contribution, while head coach Gautam Gambhir also lauded his tenure.
