Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) suffered another major setback as Cricket Ireland rejected its proposed “group swapping” plan for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. Ireland made it clear that it would stick to the originally announced schedule and play all its league matches in Sri Lanka, as planned.
As per the schedule, Bangladesh has been placed in Group C and is slated to play its group-stage matches in Kolkata and Mumbai. However, citing security concerns, Bangladesh has been reluctant to travel to India for the mega tournament. Following a crucial meeting between the BCB and the ICC, the global body assured full security arrangements in India. Despite this, the BCB proposed a fresh idea to swap groups with Ireland, which is placed in Group B. Cricket Ireland, however, firmly declined the proposal, stating that there would be no change to its group or match venues.
