As the Indian Premier League 2026 season approaches, uncertainty looms over the availability of several overseas players. A few cricketers are yet to join their respective squads due to injuries, while others are expected to miss certain matches owing to workload management. So far, the organizers have released the schedule for only 20 matches. However, IPL officials have clarified that the tournament will proceed as planned, with franchises responsible for managing player availability.
“The participation of overseas players is entirely up to the franchises. Some are recovering from injuries, while others may skip a few games due to workload concerns. Teams will handle their availability. The IPL will continue as scheduled, and we are ensuring full fan attendance and a seamless experience,” IPL sources stated. Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals have signed Dasun Shanaka as a replacement for injured England all-rounder Sam Curran. Shanaka, recently released from the Pakistan Super League, has been picked for ₹2 crore, with the franchise banking on his all-round abilities in the middle order and seam bowling.
