

Indian Grandmaster Vaishali Rameshbabu has created history. The 24-year-old Chennai star has won the prestigious FIDE Candidates Women’s Chess title. With this achievement, she has become the first Indian woman to win the Candidates Tournament, marking a rare and remarkable milestone. This victory has earned her a special place in the world of chess. She has now qualified as the challenger for the World Championship, where she will face the defending champion, Chinese Grandmaster Wenjun Ju. The venue and dates for the World Championship, scheduled for later this year, are yet to be announced by FIDE.
In the Open section of the Candidates Chess Tournament, Uzbekistan Grandmaster Javokhir Sindarov secured the title as early as Round 13. With this win, he has earned the right to compete for the World Championship title. He will face the reigning World Champion, Indian Grandmaster D. Gukesh, in the final showdown. These results have made the Candidates Tournament even more exciting and highly anticipated.
