India to Face Afghanistan in Asian Games Quarterfinal

Team India’s opponent in the men’s cricket quarterfinals at the 2026 Asian Games has been confirmed. The defending champions will face Afghanistan on Monday. Japan’s Group A match against Nepal was abandoned on Saturday due to heavy rain, ending the hosts’ campaign. Nepal and Afghanistan advanced to the next stage after finishing in the top two positions. Nepal had scored 149 for four in 15 overs, with Sundeep Jora and Lokesh Bam hitting half-centuries, before rain prevented Japan from beginning its chase.

The quarterfinal lineup is now set, with India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Afghanistan remaining in contention. India will take on Afghanistan on September 28, while Nepal will face Sri Lanka on September 29. Pakistan and Bangladesh had already secured their quarterfinal places. Japan had impressed with the ball in its earlier match against Afghanistan and had also put up a competitive bowling display against India before the Asian Games. However, inconsistent batting and the rain-affected match against Nepal brought its campaign to an end.
