India’s strong run at the Asian Games continues, with athletes, boxers and shooters making progress in their respective events. Neeru Dhanda remained in contention for gold in the women’s shotgun event, while India’s 4x100m mixed relay team qualified for the final, moving closer to a medal. Indian boxers also confirmed three more medals. However, star compound archer Vennam Jyothi Surekha, who had won gold medals at the previous three Asian Games, suffered an early exit in the pre-quarterfinals of the individual event.
In the women’s compound individual pre-quarterfinal, 14-year-old Korean archer Kang Yeon-seo stunned defending champion Jyothi Surekha by scoring a perfect 150 points, while Jyothi managed 146. In another Round of 16 clash, Indian archer Chikita Taniparthi tied with Chinese Taipei’s Chen Yi-Suan at 148 points before winning the shoot-off to enter the quarterfinals. In the men’s compound individual event, Ganesh Manirathnam defeated compatriot Sahil Jadhav 149-148 in the pre-quarterfinal to book his place in the quarterfinals.
