India dominated Day 1 of the first Test as South Africa collapsed to 159 all out in their 1st innings, lasting only 55 overs. Although several SA batters got starts — Aiden Markram (31), Ryan Rickelton (23), Tony de Zorzi (24), and Wiaan Mulder (24) — none were able to convert them into significant scores. Captain Temba Bavuma scored just 3, and the lower order contributed very little, with four batters scoring 3 or fewer.
Jasprit Bumrah was the star of the day, delivering a sensational spell to claim 5 wickets, dismantling South Africa’s batting lineup almost single-handedly. Mohammed Siraj added two crucial wickets, removing Verreynne and Jansen, while Kuldeep Yadav accounted for Mulder and Bavuma. Axar Patel rounded off the list by trapping Corbin Bosch lbw.
Tristan Stubbs showed admirable patience, remaining unbeaten on 15 off 74 balls, but with partners falling one after another, South Africa’s innings ended well below expectation. With SA dismissed for just 159 in their 1st innings, India finished the day fully in command of the Test match.
