Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that India is fully gearing up to host the 2036 Olympic Games, highlighting the country’s growing stature as a global sports destination. Addressing the inauguration of the 72nd National Volleyball Championship in Varanasi via video conference, the Prime Minister said India has successfully emerged as a host for major international sporting events over the past decade. He recalled that more than 20 global tournaments, including the FIFA U-17 World Cup, Hockey World Cup, and international chess events, have been conducted smoothly in the country.
PM Modi also noted that India is set to host the Commonwealth Games in 2030, further strengthening its bid for the 2036 Olympics. Drawing a parallel between volleyball and India’s development journey, he emphasized that success is never an individual effort but the result of teamwork, trust, coordination, and collective responsibility. He added that the National Volleyball Championship, being held from January 4 to 11 with participation from over 1,000 players across 58 teams, will transform Varanasi into a hub for national-level sports and cultural activities.
