India Hockey Teams to Return to Traditional Blue Jerseys at Asian Games

India’s men’s and women’s hockey teams are set to return to their traditional blue jerseys at the upcoming Asian Games. The decision follows the controversy surrounding the saffron kits worn by the Indian teams at the recent World Cup. Hockey India president Dilip Tirkey said the International Olympic Committee had sought details about the jersey kit and that Hockey India had clarified that blue is the primary colour, while saffron is the second alternative. He also reiterated that the change to saffron was only a temporary arrangement for the World Cup.

The Asian Games, beginning on September 19, hold significant importance for India’s hockey teams as they look to secure qualification for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Winning the gold medal at the continental event would earn the Indian men’s and women’s teams direct Olympic berths. The Asian Games will be broadcast on Sony Sports, with Indian hockey fans set to see the teams return to their familiar blue colours on the international stage.
