

India’s men’s hockey team clinched the gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games after defeating Malaysia 5-1 in the final. Captain Harmanpreet Singh opened the scoring from a penalty corner in the 11th minute before Malaysia equalised in the 14th minute. India regained the lead through Lakra in the 23rd minute and dominated the second half to complete a convincing victory. With this triumph, both India’s men’s and women’s hockey teams won gold at the same edition of the Asian Games for the first time.
India’s strong finish also lifted the contingent to 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze medals, taking the overall tally to 85 and placing the country fourth in the final standings. Wrestler Antim Panghal secured silver in the women’s 53kg category, while Deepak Punia won bronze in the men’s 97kg freestyle event. China topped the medal table, followed by hosts Japan and South Korea, while India finished ahead of Uzbekistan on the basis of silver medals.
