Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh has backed Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to feature in the 2027 ODI World Cup, arguing that age should not be the deciding factor for experienced players. Comparing their situation with football legend Lionel Messi, Harbhajan said that if Messi can continue competing at 39, there is no reason why Kohli and Rohit cannot represent India at the next World Cup, provided they remain fit and perform.
Harbhajan highlighted the duo’s vast experience in major tournaments, saying that nearly 300 international matches worth of experience can be crucial when pressure is at its highest. He also praised Kohli’s fitness and the influence he has had on younger players. Harbhajan further defended India head coach Gautam Gambhir, saying that his straightforward and outspoken nature may not appeal to everyone, but his passion for cricket and commitment to the team should not be questioned.
