Tensions have escalated between the ICC and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026. Pakistan announced it would boycott the match against India scheduled for this month, prompting a strong response from the ICC under Jay Shah’s leadership. The ICC has warned that if Pakistan does not reverse its decision within 48 hours, it could face severe penalties. The controversy began after Bangladesh was removed from the tournament and replaced by Scotland, with Pakistan taking an unexpected stance in support of Bangladesh.
If PCB does not change its position, Pakistan could face complete suspension from all international cricket tournaments, foreign players may be barred from participating in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), and approximately 34.5 million dollars in annual ICC funding could be frozen. Experts say the situation could have a significant impact on Pakistan’s future in global cricket.
