The International Cricket Council (ICC) has formed a special committee to address the ongoing controversy surrounding the Asia Cup 2025 trophy. The decision came after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) raised concerns during an ICC meeting about Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chief Mohsin Naqvi holding the trophy.
According to reports, the issue began when Naqvi took the trophy with him after India declined to collect it following their tournament victory. This unusual situation sparked confusion over the official handover process.
After detailed discussions, the ICC decided to form a committee to investigate and ensure that India officially receives the Asia Cup 2025 trophy. The panel will also review communication protocols between tournament organizers and national cricket boards to prevent such disputes in the future.
The BCCI maintained that the trophy should have been presented formally to Team India, as per standard practice, while the ACC clarified that Naqvi only took temporary custody due to the team’s absence during the presentation.
The ICC committee is expected to submit its report soon, resolving the matter and bringing clarity to the trophy handover procedure.
